Sweeney Todd

The movie Sweeney Todd is currently hot on the screens.

If you really want to find out all about the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, then I recommend that you read Sweeney Todd by Peter Haining.  The demon barber has been called the greatest mass murderer in English history.  With an ingenious revolving chair and a cutthroat razor, he is said to have robbed and butchered over 160 victims in his barber shop in Fleet Street.  What was truly gruesome was how he disposed of the remains.  He butchered the bodies.  Once cut up, the flesh was given to his accomplice Margery Lovett who cooked it and sold it to the public in her famous meat pies.  Truly an extraordinary story that makes great reading as you enter the times of London in the 1780s.
