Book of the WeekTwice as good by Marcus MabryThe first biography of Condoleeza Rice to be written since she assumed her role as U.S. secretary of state The heart of Mabry's book is not Rice's evolution as a political figure. It focuses on her upbringing, her childhood, her family and her early relationships. It's inspiring to know that Rice's mother and father planted the first aspirations in their daughter to rise above the circumstances in which she was born and raised. In the American deep south, to be Black was not only to be endangered but to be a less than full member of the human community. She was encouraged by her parents to dismiss the thought that she was a lesser person than Whites simply by virtue of her race. The encouragement given by her parents to set her goals and achieve them, regardless of the environment, has made her one of the most influential people in the world, a driven woman of our times 30 May 2008 Main Navigation: | About Us | Members | Searching | Maori Resources | Kid Space | Teen Zone | What's New
