Kete in the news
Kete Horowhenua is in the news with nominations in two major award programmes.
Kete is one of three finalists in the 3M Awards for Innovation in libraries. This is the second time that Horowhenua Library Trust has been a finalist for this award which is presented annually at the New Zealand Library Association conference. The award has never been won by the same library twice so we are hoping to set a new precedent this year.
The second nomination for Kete is for the World Summit Award 2007 in the category of "Building the best and most creative global e-Content network".
The WSA is a global showcase of 40 outstanding projects, in eight categories, with a special emphasis on those which show the benefits of information and communication technology for the development of communities and society at large. Kete has been nominated as the New Zealand entry in the e-inclusion section of the competition.
e-inclusion relates to: "all measures supporting IT integration of least developed countries into the Information Society. Reducing the 'digital divide' and 'content gap' between technology-empowered and technology-excluded communities and groups – such as rural areas and women. Bridging society through multimedia."
The winners of each section will be announced at a gala event in Venice on November 5th 2007. Here's hoping!
