Homework HelpMore answers than you can shake a stick at. We've got a great collection of reference books. If you can't find the answer in a book, try the Internet for up to date information - and it's free. There is always someone to help at Levin library, or ask the branch staff at the branch libraries. Or go to AnyQuestions where you'll find a real librarian online between 1pm and 6pm each day. Try Study It for NCEA science, maths and english problems. There are revision notes, key tips and practice questions. There are also hints on how to keep on track, study and exam advice and tertiary and careers info. You can discuss issues with students and teachers and email questions to expert teachers. A great site if you are stuck for answers. Another good site for helping with homework is Homework Machine at Auckland City Libraries.
New Zealand Post Children's Book awardsBooks nominated in the senior category are:
Lin And The Red Stranger by Ken Catran (Random House New Zealand) These are all in the Teenzone section of the library, except for No Safe Harbour, which is in the Children's fiction.
TeenZinesMagazines for Young Adults
The Library has bought a load of new titles for the young adult section, such as Stance, Surfers' Path and Thrasher, just to name a few. The magazines apply to all ages from The Simpsons (13 yrs) to Street Machine (19 years plus.)
One World could be described as Vogue for wealthy black Americans. Urban style, celebrating cultural diversity, with a street kick .... and it doesn't come cheap. This is dream fodder - in the same way as Vogue is ... we'd never seriously consider spending $40,000 on a watch but it sure is good to dream about it...
Stance is one of the hottest magazines Justin has seen in a while (We couldn't get it off him!) Filled with music, sports, cars, girls - all the basics - but also all the little things in mags you can't live without like music, DVD and game reviews, celebrity profiles etc etc etc - the list just goes on.
The Simpsons Comic features the same quirky characters written by the same (obviously) quirky writers. The comics contain all new story lines - not seen on TV.
Don't underestimate Dolly. This is a high demand favourite - and it's easy to see why. It has lots on makeup, hair, clothes, boys and being Australian it's more attainable style-wise than some of the other American and British mags.
Creme is a very pleasant surprise. It is a New Zealand mag, edited by Katrina Devine of Shortland Street fame, but devotes the great bulk of its content to celebrating overseas stars and their fashion, lifestyles and lives. It has all the gossip we chicks just love to read about, and to be honest our kiwi stars just can't hold a candle to the high-life of J-Lo & Mariah.
New Zealand Horse and Pony is a mag packed full of trials, competitions, gear and horses for those aspiring horse riders. This is a New Zealand publication of a very high quality, stacking up well against our new British horsey mag: Horse and Rider.
Want to check out what's happening in the global surfing world? Take a look at Surfer's Path, filled with interviews from the pros of world surfing, about their wild rides and wipe-outs on the seven seas.
Mountain Biking : a great magazine to see what it needs to become a world class mountain biker. Filled with loads of interesting tales from the trails - and it features plenty of chics on bikes, which is great given the number of very talented female mountain bikers in the area.
Thrasher should be sub titled: "The Skateboarders Bible". This mag has got to be a must have for any skate boarder looking to become the next Tony Hawk. Hear how the professsionals started and see how they do it.
Street Machine is an Aussie car mag filled with hot cars and hot women!!! Its got plenty of tips for the pros and reviews new gadgets to give your car the ultimate revamp. Look out also for NZ Hot Rod, Cruizin and Fast Fours.
